Jean-Francis Raffaelli (French, 1850-1924) original drypoint etching and aquating.
Title: Le Ville de Pecheurs A Gagnes, 1913.
This original drypoint etching by Raffaelli features his signature attention to detail and masterful use of light and shadow. Subtle blue, rust, red, and green hues and a striking sense of depth, this etching captures the essence of a turn-of-the-century French village.
Jean-Francois Raffaelli's style has been long debated. His work was exhibited in two Impressionist Art Exhibitions, and he was rumored to be lifelong friends with several of the Impressionists. His style ranges from Realist, Naturalist to Impressionist. He began etching early in his career, and his etchings were larger than typical with an exquisite attention to detail. His oil painings are/were highly regarded and costly, while his etching kept his work affordable. He published etchings in 100 to 200 editions.
Elegantly presented matted and framed in a lovely subtle gilt finish.
